Job Summary:

• Represents Nursing in decision-making within the Organization as designated by and in the absence of the Nursing Director. Conducts daily rounds to patients along with other healthcare team providers.

• Supervises the activities of large inpatient units, critical areas, and Emergency Room covering 24-hour responsibility for the efficient operation. Allocates staff coverage in areas having manpower shortages. Reports to the Nursing Director all work-related information, problems, observations, and actions taken during the shift.

Responsibilities:

• Interprets to nursing staff the department’s shared mission/vision, short and long-term goals in the light of managerial experiences and facts.
• Maintains professional and collaborative working relationships with department heads and higher management.
• Briefs Nursing Director on what shifts are in every Nursing Unit; overtime rendered and taken; and swaps between staff within or out of the clinical area
• Assists Nursing Director in checking duty rosters of all Nursing Units allocating adequate staffing in all nursing units and full participation in quality improvement and other hospital-wide programs.
• Assists the Nursing Director in evaluating and verifying nursing credentials for the purpose of promotion motivation.
• Performs managerial functions common to Inpatient and Critical Nursing Units and Emergency Room as established by the management.
• Plans, coordinates, supervises and evaluates nursing care activities in accordance with patient needs and skill level of personnel.
• Serves as a positive role model, renders direct nursing care when necessary.
• Instructs and works with staff in utilization of nursing care delivery systems, quality assurance activities, nursing documentation, and specific unit resources and skills.
• Determines specific professional development needs of employees and plans programs to meet these needs recommending orientation programs, conferences, training materials, and work experiences as well as in-service education.
• Remains knowledgeable in areas to the budget and continuously seek opportunities to improve departmental quality and efficiency while keeping budgetary issues in mind.

Qualification:

• Bachelor of Nursing plus Master’s degree in Nursing/Healthcare.
• 10 years’ experience with 3 years’ experience in a nursing leadership role.
