Job Summary:

• Provides direction and coordinates the activities of Ward Nursing Unit to maintain proper professional and administrative procedures to meet KIH Nursing standards according to Joint Commission on Accreditation (JCI).

• Participates in the planning and implementation of integrated preventive-curative nursing care programs ensuring that hospital and nursing objectives, standards of nursing care and practices, policies, and procedures are being implemented in Ward Nursing Unit. Reports to the Nursing Director through the Nursing House Supervisor all the ongoing activities and problems within the unit.

Responsibilities:

• Assist in strategic planning by providing input especially in resource planning.
• Performs managerial functions common to Inpatient as established by the management.
• Plans, coordinates, supervises and evaluates nursing care activities in accordance with patient needs and skill level of personnel.
• Supervises the activities of large inpatient units covering 24-hour responsibility for the efficient operation.
• Works with doctors on problems affecting nursing service to patients under the care of treating doctors.
• Ensure safe protection of medications and narcotics according to Hospital policy. And reporting medication errors.
• Directs the personnel functions of assigned staff including the application of KIH Hospital personnel policies in employment, wages, the conduct of employees, safety, and other related activities; handling grievances; administering warning and disciplinary actions were necessary for conformance with KIH Hospital’s policies.
• Participates in Nursing Quality Management and other hospital-wide committee programs as designated by the Nursing Director.
• Requests supplies and other required resources ensuring appropriate and efficient utilization avoiding wastage.
• Plans and maintains masterwork schedules necessary for the required performance of all nurses and support services staff assigned in Ward Nursing Unit including leaves of absence, vacations, holiday, weekend, and emergency on-call schedules, and computation of off and overtime balances at the end of the month.
• Counter-checks patients’ files to ensure that doctors’ orders are carried out properly and documentation are done by the assigned nurses and that patients are charged accordingly.
• Serves as a positive role model, renders direct nursing care when necessary.
• Makes daily rounds to Specialty Areas for assessment of the effectiveness of care, record-keeping, and evaluation of staff performance.
• Works with the unit staff in determining the need for development and evaluation of patient/family health teaching programs and discharge planning.
• Supervises the quality of nursing services based on clinical indicators and, performance measures.

Qualification:

Bachelor of Nursing & Master Is preferred + 6 Years’ experience with 2 years’ experience in a nursing leadership role.
