Job Summary:

Provides direction and coordinates the activities of Operating Room Nursing Unit to maintain proper professional and administrative procedures to meet KIH Nursing standards according to JCI Accreditation. Participates in the planning and implementation of integrated preventive-curative nursing care ensuring that hospital and nursing objectives, standards of nursing care and practices, policies, and procedures are being implemented in Operating Room Nursing Unit. Reports to the Nursing Director all the ongoing activities and problems within the unit.

Responsibilities:

• Performs nursing administrative functions common to Operating Room Nursing Unit either directly or by delegation to assigned staff.
• Contributes to the establishment of Nursing's shared mission, vision, and objectives ensuring appropriate and timely communication to the staff under her supervision.
• Assesses and provides patient/family educational needs and readiness to learn utilizing appropriate resources.
• Takes inventory with the CSSD–In-Charge to segregate and replace defective instruments in the operating room.
• Develops and maintains professional quality standards and makes recommendations for improvement of such standards.
• Recommends educational activities for nursing staff in Operating Room Nursing Unit.
• Supports hospital-wide safety plans by strictly enforcing rules and regulations concerning safety practices and disaster plans.
• Keeps informed of current developments in the field of Operating Room Nursing services and keeps the staff up-to-date of procedures through group discussions, lectures, and in-service training.
• Participates in Nursing Quality Meetings and other hospital-wide committee programs as designated by the Quality Department.
• Counter-checks patients’ files to ensure that doctors’ orders are carried out properly and documentation are done by the assigned nurses and that patients are charged accordingly.
• Remains knowledgeable in areas to the budget and continuously seek opportunities to improve departmental quality and efficiency while keeping budgetary issues in mind.

Qualification:

• MBBCH plus M.D. or board or equivalent in the specialty.
• 7 years professional experiences after MD with 3 years in a leadership role.
